Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
Sue Johnson developed EFT in the 1980’s based on the belief that when couples are having trouble in a relationship, they are struggling with basic attachment and safety issues. Simply put, we are social beings and we are hard wired for connection. It is part of our survival strategy and one of our deepest human instincts. At the core of EFT is the idea that a safe and secure connection to our partner not only feels good, it is necessary for health and happiness.
Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) for couples is an effective form of relationship counseling that has been rigorously researched for more than 20 years. During EFT sessions, you and your partner have the opportunity to reframe your problematic interactions and start to create more positive communication patterns. EFT is strength-based and recognizes the resiliency of couples.
Together, you, your partner and I will examine the reasons why you have trouble connecting and communicating. Our EFT sessions can help you recognize each other’s needs and build a new model of interaction in which you both feel secure, heard and loved.
