I help individuals and couples realize a fuller potential through a safe therapeutic relationship that allows their thoughts and feelings to better serve and enhance their well-being. In our families of origin we learned to behave in ways that helped us function in the family we were born into. Sometimes those learned behavior patterns do not serve us well in our adult lives.
When we become aware of how and why we behave the way we do, we can make a more conscious choice as to how we wish to be now. This can help us have more fulfilling and closer relationships with ourselves and others, as well as open ourselves up to finding deeper meaning in our lives.
I am from the East Coast: Washington, DC and Bethesda, MD. After obtaining my undergraduate degree from The University of Delaware in English-Journalism, I lived in Singapore where I obtained a Counseling Certificate. I then lived in New York City for almost a decade where I taught dance and fitness as well as got my Masters in Social Work from Fordham University. I worked with women recovering from abuse (physical and emotional) as well as clients who were re-entering society post incarceration. I also worked in the field of addiction for years supporting individuals and families recovering from the ravages of Drug and Alcohol Abuse. I worked with families struggling with at-risk children and young adults.
When I moved to the West Coast I helped clients struggling with weight, health and wellness and then I began my own private practice on The Peninsula. After moving to Sonoma I joined Empathy Works Therapy and have been with them ever since. After moving back to the East Coast (summer 2023), I continue to work with California clients on-line and remain licensed in California. I am married with children: a college student and a High Schooler. My children inspire me to keep growing and developing as a parent and as a professional.
I believe that human beings are programmed to be socially interconnected; We naturally seek togetherness, crave closeness and intimacy. Sometimes the world around us and/or the world within us can block us from getting our needs met. Whether it is the demands of the modern world, technology, the pursuit of greater wealth, tragedies, loss or simply the struggles life has served us, we can become unbalanced, disconnected, angry, fearful, anxious, sad or isolated. If you are aware of any such imbalance, therapy can help restore you. Individuals who seek therapy are very strong and often better equipped to meet the demands of their lives than those around them.
Your decision to seek connection, support and visibility in therapy can help you regain a sense of your true essence, purpose and vitality. If you would like to talk and see if we are a fit, please send me an email (jenny@empathyworkstherapy.com) and we can schedule a call.
